Ubuntu 16.04 & Android Studio 2.3 – Emulator not running

Android Studio 2.3 running on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS – AVD Emulator installed but does not start/run

Problem when using Android Studio 2.3 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS: the emulator does not start. Android Studio is waiting and waiting and then – nothing, not even an error message.

The problem is related to a library (yeah DLL-hell just like in MS Windows). This can be easily resolved:

1
sudo apt-get install lib64stdc++6:i386
1
sudo apt-get install mesa-utils

Now you need to know the path to the Android SKD.  Don’t know it?  Simply start Android Studio and go to Tools/Android/SDK Manager.  This starts the SDK manager.  Here you’ll get the path to the Android SDK unter Appearance and Behaviour / System and Settings / Android SDK.

1
cd YOURPATH/Android/Sdk/emulator/lib64
1
mv libstdc++/ libstdc++.bak
1
ln -s /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++

That’s it!
